This page gives a summary of the services for each Rail Operator over the Christmas and New Year period (23 December 2010 – 4 January 2011)

In 2010, as Christmas Day (25th December) and Boxing Day (26th December) fall on a Saturday and Sunday, Monday 27th December and Tuesday 28th December are Bank Holidays.

In 2011, New Years Day (1st January) also falls on a Saturday, so Monday January 3rd is also a Bank Holiday. Tuesday 4th January is also a Bank Holiday in Scotland.

Christmas Eve Train Services (December 24th 2010)

Arriva Train Wales – Normal weekday service but services end by 22:00
c2c – Normal weekday service until 12:00. After 12:00 there will be some additional trains, and many trains will have more carriages than normal. All services will end by 23:00
Chiltern Railways – Normal weekday service but trains will finish much earlier than normal. The last train to Amersham will leave London Marylebone at 19:15 and the last train to Birmingham Snow Hill will leave London Marylebone at 20:00
Cross Country – Normal weekday service but most services end by 20:00
East Coast – Normal weekday service but services end by 22:00
East Midlands Trains – Normal weekday service but services end by 22:00
Eurostar – Normal weekday service but last train from London St Pancras International to Paris is at 17:32 and last train to Lille/Brussels is at 17:04
First Capital Connect – Services affected by engineering works and services end by approximately 22:30
First Great Western – Normal weekday service but services end by 21:00. The Night Riviera sleeper service from London Paddington to Penzance will not run.
First Hull Trains – Normal weekday service but the 17:06 and 19:18 Hull to London Kings Cross and 20:30 London Kings Cross to Hull services will not operate.

Buses will depart between 05:20 and 19:50 from London Paddington, and between 05:40 and 20:10 from Heathrow Central bus terminal. Shuttle train services will run between the airport terminals at Heathrow Airport.

First Great Western – No train services. A two-hourly bus service will run between Reading, Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport. Buses will depart on the hour, between 06:00 and 16:00 from Reading, and between 08:00 and 18:00 from Gatwick Airport

Gatwick Express – A half-hourly train service will operate, first departure from from London Victoria at 05:30, and from Gatwick Airport at 06:20
Grand Central – No service
Heathrow Express – Trains will operate every 20 minutes between London Paddington and Heathrow Terminals 1,2,3 & 5. Connections are available from Terminal 1, 2 & 3 to Terminal 4
Heathrow Connect – No service
Island Line – No service

Stansted Express – Service operates after 06:00 from Tottenham Hale to Stansted Airport only

ScotRail – A Sunday service will run on routes in the Strathclyde area from approximately 10:00, except between Paisley Gilmour Street and Johnstone which are affected by engineering work. There are no other ScotRail services on Boxing Day.
South West Trains – No service
Southeastern – No service
Southern – An hourly service will operate between London Victoria and Brighton, from 10:10 until 20:10. These trains will call at Streatham Common, Selhurst, East Croydon, Redhill, Gatwick Airport, Three Bridges, Haywards Heath and Brighton. There will also be a half-hourly service from Balham to East Croydon via Crystal Palace and from Balham to Sutton via Selhurst. There will be a connecting bus service from London Victoria to Balham
Virgin Trains – No service
Wrexham & Shropshire – No service

Bank Holiday Monday December 27 Train Services 2010

Arriva Train Wales – Train services will start later than normal, then normal weekday service
c2c – A Sunday service will operate
Chiltern Railways – A Saturday service will operate
Cross Country – A reduced weekday service will operate, and trains will start later in the day than usual. Direct trains between Didcot (for Reading) and Newcastle, and between Bristol and Manchester will not operate – customers will need to change trains at Birmingham New Street
East Coast – An amended weekday service will operate
East Midlands Trains – Trains will start later in the day than usual, then an amended service will operate to/from London St Pancras because of engineering work. A shuttle train service will run between Corby and Kettering. Local services via Derby/Nottingham will start later in the day than usual, then a normal weekday service will operate
Eurostar – Normal weekday service
First Capital Connect – A Saturday service will operate. There will be no trains between Moorgate and Finsbury Park
First Great Western – Major engineering work will affect all services that operate via Reading. On all other First Great Western routes, trains will start later than usual, then an amended weekday service will operate. The Night Riviera Sleeper services to/from London Paddington will not operate
First Hull Trains – A normal weekday service will run, except for the following trains: 06:25 Hull to London Kings Cross, 07:20 London Kings Cross to Hull, 19:18 Hull to London Kings Cross, 20:30 London Kings Cross to Hull which are all cancelled. In addition, the 12:45 Hull to London Kings Cross service will be retimed to depart from Hull at 14:13
First TransPennine Express – Trains will be starting later in the day than usual, a reduced service will run between York and Manchester Piccadilly / Manchester Airport, and services to/from Middlesbrough will only run between Middlesbrough and York. On other routes, and for the rest of the day, a normal weekday service will operate, subject to engineering work
Gatwick Express – After the 07:00 London Victoria to Gatwick Airport and the 07:07 Gatwick Airport to London Victoria trains, Gatwick Express services will be suspended because of engineering work at London Victoria. A half-hourly Southern train service will be available between London Victoria, East Croydon and Gatwick Airport.
Grand Central – A normal weekday service will run, except for the following trains: 06:51 Bradford Interchange to London Kings Cross, 10:50 London Kings Cross to Bradford Interchange, 14:03 from London Kings Cross to Sunderland and 19:18 London Kings Cross to Sunderland train which are all canceled
Heathrow Express – A half-hourly train service will operate
Heathrow Connect – Normal weekday service but train service will start later than normal
Island Line – Normal weekday service but first trains will be 06:35 Ryde St Johns Road to Ryde Pier, 06:50 Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin and 07:18 Shanklin to Ryde Pier Head.
London Midland – A Saturday service will operate between London Euston and Milton Keynes / Northampton, between Birmingham New Street and Crewe / Liverpool Lime Street, Birmingham New Street and Shrewsbury. A normal weekday service will operate between London Euston and Crewe via Northampton / Stoke-on-Trent, between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton (local services), between Watford Junction and St Albans Abbey, between Coventry and Nuneaton and between Stourbridge Junction and Stourbridge Town. An amended weekday service will run between Birmingham New Street and Coventry / Northampton, between Birmingham New Street and Worcester / Hereford, between Birmingham Snow Hill and via Stourbridge, between Birmingham New Street and Walsall / Rugeley Trent Valley, between Leamington Spa / Stratford-upon-Avon and Great Malvern / Worcester via Birmingham Snow Hill and between Lichfield Trent Valley, Birmingham New Street and Redditch. Buses replace trains between Birmingham New Street and Redditch because of engineering work. There will be no service between Bedford and Bletchley.
London Overground – A Saturday service will operate
Merseyrail – A Saturday service will operate
National Express East Anglia – There are no trains between London Liverpool Street and Ilford, or between London Liverpool Street and Hackney Downs / Tottenham Hale because of engineering work. A Sunday service will operate between Ilford and Gidea Park / Shenfield / Southend / Southminster, between Shenfield and Colchester / Ipswich / Norwich / Anglia branch lines services, between Hackney Downs and Chingford / Enfield Town / Cheshunt and between Tottenham Hale and Hertford East / Cambridge. An amended weekday service will run between Norwich and Sheringham / Cambridge / Great Yarmouth & Lowestoft and between Ipswich and Cambridge / Peterborough
Stansted Express – A Sunday service will operate between Tottenham Hale and Stansted Airport
Northern Rail – Normal weekday service but train services starting later than usual

National Express East Anglia – A Saturday level of service will operate, with some alterations to Metro services during the morning and evening peak hours. Sudbury services will run to/from Marks Tey, Walton-on-the-Naze services will run to/from Colchester, Harwich Town services will run to/from Manningtree, and (during morning peak hours) Braintree services will run to/from Witham.
Stansted Express – An amended Saturday service. Trains that normally run between Stansted Airport and Stratford will be diverted to start from / terminate at London Liverpool Street
Northern Rail – Normal weekday service. Services will start to be withdrawn after approximately 19:00
ScotRail – A Saturday service will operate. There will be no train service after approx. 21:00
South West Trains – A Saturday service will operate with some additional morning peak hour trains
Southeastern – A Saturday service will operate. London Waterloo East station will close at 23:45
Southern – A Saturday service will operate
Virgin Trains – Normal weekday service but trains will finish earlier than normal
Wrexham & Shropshire – A Saturday service will operate

New Years Day Train Services (Saturday January 1st 2011)

Arriva Train Wales – Trains will start later than usual, then amended Saturday service
c2c – Additional early morning trains will run from London Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness from 00:10 until 02:45. Then from 06:00 a normal Saturday service will operate
Chiltern Railways – A Saturday service will operate
Cross Country – An amended Saturday service will operate, with trains starting from approximately 08:00.
East Coast – An amended Saturday service will operate
East Midlands Trains – Trains will start later in the day than usual (from approximately 08:30). A reduced service will run to/from London St Pancras because of engineering work (see below). A shuttle train service will run between Corby and Kettering. Local services via Derby/Nottingham will start later in the day than usual, then a Sunday service will operate
Eurostar – Normal Saturday service. First train from London St Pancras International to Paris at 07:57 and to Lille/Brussels at 08:02
First Capital Connect – A Sunday service will operate. Additional trains will operate between 00:01 and 03:30 on some routes to help New Year revelers travel home.
First Great Western – Some additional early morning trains will run between London Paddington and Reading. Major engineering work will affect all services that operate via Reading. On all other First Great Western routes, train services will begin later than usual and an amended Saturday service will operate. The Night Riviera Sleeper services to/from London Paddington will not operate
First Hull Trains – Normal Saturday service
First TransPennine Express – Overnight / early morning trains to/from Manchester Airport will not operate. All trains between Manchester Airport and Edinburgh will not call at Haymarket. Also, the 13:00 Manchester Airport to Glasgow Central service will not call at Motherwell. On other routes, and for the rest of the day, a normal Saturday service will operate.
Gatwick Express – A Sunday service will operate
Grand Central – No service
Heathrow Express – Normal Saturday service
Heathrow Connect – Normal Saturday service
Island Line – An hourly train service will run between Ryde Pier Head and Shanklin. Trains will depart from Ryde Pier Head at 45 minutes past each hour (between 08:45 and 21:45). Trains will depart from Shanklin at 13 minutes past each hour (between 08:13 and 22:13). A train will also run at 22:45 from Ryde Pier Head to Ryde St Johns Road. The bus link service between Shanklin and Ventnor will not operate on New Years Day.
London Midland – A reduced Saturday service will run on most routes. A Sunday service will operate between Birmingham New Street and Walsall / Rugeley Trent Valley, between Lichfield Trent Valley, Birmingham New Street and Redditch, between Watford Junction and St Albans Abbey and between Stourbridge Junction and Stourbridge Town. Between Coventry and Nuneaton, trains will start from 11:45 after which a normal Saturday service will run. There will be no service between Bedford and Bletchley.
London Overground – A Saturday service will operate but train services will start later than usual.

On lines to Colchester / Ipswich / Norwich and Anglia branch lines: Trains will start later in the day than usual (from approximately 10:00), then a Sunday service will operate to/from Shenfield. Sudbury services will run to/from Marks Tey, Walton-on-the-Naze services will run to/from Colchester, Harwich Town services will run to/from Manningtree, and Braintree services will run to/from Witham. An amended Saturday service will operate from Norwich to Sheringham / Cambridge / Great Yarmouth & Lowestoft, between Ipswich and Cambridge / Peterborough. A Sunday service will run on Chingford / Enfield Town / Cheshunt and Hertford East / Stansted Airport / Cambridge services but with additional services during the afternoon because of football at Tottenham. Trains that normally run between Cambridge and Stratford will be diverted to start from / terminate at London Liverpool Street
Stansted Express – A Sunday service will operate
Northern Rail – Trains in the Tyne/Tees area will not operate. On all other routes, a normal weekday service will run, but trains will be starting later in the day than usual
ScotRail – No service
South West Trains – Services will run from London Waterloo to Kingston, Guildford and Basingstoke until 04:57 then a normal Saturday service will operate
Southeastern – Some services will run from London Charing Cross and London Victoria for New Year revelers until approx 01:30. For the rest of the day a normal Saturday service will operate
Southern – Additional early morning trains will run from London Victoria to get people home from New Year celebrations after which a Saturday service will operate.
Virgin Trains – A normal Saturday service will operate, but trains will start later in the day than usual (from approximately 08:00)
